Wimbledon: Monfils vs Fucsovics – Match Update

The 2nd round match in Wimbledon between Gaël Monfils (48th in the world) and Marton Fucsovics (105th) was suspended while the light was starting to decline Thursday evening and that the Hungarian had just equalized with two rounds everywhere. The meeting disputed on the court n.18, outside, was arrested at 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-7 (5/7) and will resume on Friday.

The 38 -year -old French veteran will be forced to play a fifth set, as he did in the first round against his compatriot Ugo Humbert. But this time in a match spread over two days.

Before the interruption, the London public attended a funny game, where each opponent had his vacuum passages. In the fourth set, in particular, Monfils was led 3-0 then rebelled by winning five games in a row. He then served for the match, but Fucsovics in turn produced a “raised” to lead 6-5. “La Monf” snatched a tie-break which he badly negotiated against the 33-year-old Hungarian, former world N.31 eliminated in qualifying but drafted in the main draw after a package.

The next round, the winner of the match will face the American Ben Shelton (10th) or the Australian Rinky Hijikata (87th).
