Lukáš Kubiš: 2nd Place – Stage 1 Result

Sibiu Cycling Tour 2025

Results 1. Stage (Sura Mica – Sibiu, 215.3 km):

BRATISLAVA. Slovak cyclist Lukáš Kubiš was close to attributing another victory to his account after the triumph at the National Championship.

At the Romanian Sibiu Cycling Tour event, he finished second in the opening stage when he was overcome by only 23-year-old Canadian racer Riley Pickrell.

Interestingly, for the rider of the Israel – Premier Tech team, it was the second professional victory, and the first one achieved the same event last year.

The 14th year of the Romanian stage opened a duel on the 215 km long route, which had several shorter climbs and an attractive classic conclusion.

Video: CONCLUSION 1

Four hundred meters before the finish, cyclists began to sprint into a small hill with cobblestones. Already after about 150 m, the terrain straightened, but this section was enough to make the Canadian winning position.

On the contrary, Lukáš Kubiš was about 10th place before climbing, and although he subsequently overtaken one opponent after another, it was not enough for Pickrel.

The other two stages are designed for climber. Pickrell is most likely to lose the leader’s jersey, as the second stage of the second stage is at the top of Bâlea Lac after a long climb with a length of 25.9 km and an average slope of 5.7 percent.
