Only the world’s number one survived. Arina Sabalenka (27, Belarus, photo) was the only female singular world ranking in the top five of the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament. Sabalenka defeated Marie Bowzkova (27, Czech, 48th) in 2-0 (7-6, 6-4) in the second round of the tournament.
Wimbledon is a stage of this year. The previous major competition, the French Open Champion Coco Gop (21, the United States, 2nd), Jessica Pegula (31, US, 3rd), and Chung Chin -won (23, China, 5th) all bowed their heads. Last year, Wimbledon runner -up Jasmine Paolini (27, Italy, 4th) also lost in the second round.
This is the second time since Wimbledon’s 2018 Wimbledon, which has been in the four major competitions (Australia Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open) Women’s Singles in 2018. At the time, only Shimona Halev (34, Romania, retirement) remained the world’s No. 1, but kneeled to Sheosway (39, Taiwan, 52th at the time) in the third round. Sabalenka, who was runner -up in the Australian Open and France Open this year, said, “I hope there is no more change now.”
