What if your car was lower by a whole liter per 100 km? For passenger cars a pleasant change, a huge difference in trucks. In addition, the new MAN TGX is also quieter and more comfortable.

Speaking of 4 % on fuel consumption, at first glance it looks like a negligible value. However, if you are managers of a large fleet of commercial cars, the more remote trucks, you will immediately see. It is such a savings that the MAN at the TGX cabin promises the new model year 2025, thanks to the aerodynamic optimization and the new D30 Powerlion engine.

If we start from the aerodynamics, camera mirrors, chassis covering and ailerons and aprons around the chassis are key. And because the covers and covers are known tricks, let’s look at the mirrors.

Unlike, for example, from Volvo, the cameras have really replaced all mirrors. But not every camera has its own display. The “antennae” above the door are wearing two cameras and on the right side solves the side mirror. The front mirror was replaced by a camera sticking forward – but it does not have its own display. Instead, it is displayed within the speed of 10 km/h its image on the infotainment display.

A pair of displays on A-pillars change their display according to the driving situation. When driving low speeds, it displays the convex simulation to the classic part of the mirrors to make it easier to maneuver and to see the driver as best as possible at the angles. As you can see on the displays – by the way, the right one is much larger to look about the same as the left as the left one – shows a video.

On the other hand, when you drive at a higher speed – in a short test at the airport in Kamen near Pelhřimov, the empty truck can start 85 km/h completely cool – the system on a larger display of the display shows an undistorted image for the best possible view. Of course there are also lines that show the end of the trailer and some distance behind it; This greatly facilitates the inclusion in the right lane after you overtake a slower vehicle.

Honestly – the simulation of the convex part of the mirror is quite distorted and I think I would have to get used to it for quite a long time. Soon, however, I will take a ride with the electric man ETGX in Germany on normal roads, so at least I know what to focus on.

The new D30 Powerlion has a full designation is the D3066 and it is a de facto thirteen -liter Scania Super 13, even if the man does not admit it. From 12.7 liters it offers six levels of power – from 380 hp over 410, 440, 480, and 520 to 560 hp. The torque for the most powerful version is 2.800 Nm. It is designed primarily for long -distance transport and such parameters will not have, I believe, with 40 tons no problem.

The engine achieves lower consumption simply by injuring less fuel under higher pressure and combustion at higher temperatures. However, this means that it is still running with a poor mixture, so it has much higher emissions of nitrogen oxides. Therefore, dual injection of urea is required to the exhaust system, which increases its consumption, to 10 % of diesel consumption. So if the engine consumes 25 l/100 km, AdBlue consumption is 2.5 l/100 km.

In terms of slowing there is a combination of motor exhaust brake and CRB – ​​compression release brake, ie decompression brakes. It works so that the piston compresses the air in the cylinder and the suction valve then releases the pressure back into the intake. It is enough for an unlawful truck at a flat airport and brakes really very efficiently; Although the end of the runway comes a little unexpectedly behind the horizon, I do not have to step on the brake pedal. Yet – with 40 tons behind his back, all the more in hilly terrain, I would be calmer with the retarder. Of course, it can be ordered.

The power chain includes 14st. The robotized gearbox, which is 14th degree exclusively by fast trade, which compresses speed below 1000/min-1, below the maximum torque zone. During a short test at the airport in the stone, the car ranked it when we drove a steady 85 km/h, did not accelerate and it was not uphill. It was enough to gently step the gas and the gearbox brushed in thirteen. However, this gearbox cannot be combined with a different engine than the D3066.

Of course, electronics are also part of the economical driving, as with other trucks brands. Man tells his systems EfficientCruise and Predictivedrive, and the point is that the built -in navigation also has topographic data, so he knows when the hill begins and ends, how steep and what follows.

This adapts both the speed of driving, if you leave it in fully automatic mode and the shifting strategy; After all, a change in the quality of the two -shaped robotized gearbox takes some time, so the goal is to reduce the share of time as the engine does not take up to the wheels.

Finally – what does it mean, the 4% savings? When a truck runs with an average consumption of 25 l/100 km, it is a reduction in diameter by a liter for every 100 kilometers. With how many long -distance trucks they drive – the service interval of 100 thousand km is absolutely common and these cars drive over 120,000 kilometers a year – a four percent reduction is significant.

Exemplary silence

The modernized cabin also impressed the perfect sound inspection of both the engine and the aerodynamic noise and sounds from the chassis. In addition to the aerodynamic optimization of better driving silence, the sliding layer from below the suspension part of the cab also helps the laminated, laminated windshield.

The engine suppresses another cover, located just above its valve lid, so the transfer of the hustlers to the cab is really minimal. In addition, the six -cylinder six -cylinder engine excels in a rampage running.

Of course, the full test of predictive cruise control was not quite possible at the airport in the stone – also because I had only about ten minutes on the car. But what I could try is capable technology. And I will shine on the mirrors next time.
