Hayes became the holder of the Lakers last season, with 72.2% of success in field shots, the best mark of his career, and ended among the 10 best in percentage of field shots allowed as a defender in trays and mates among the players who played 250 or more shots, according to ESPN Research. He averaged 6.8 points and 4.8 rebounds in 56 games.
Hayes started in the first four games of the defeat of the Lakers 4-1 in the playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but never played more than 10 minutes in any series of the series and did not play in the fifth.
