He raged in AHL for three years, but in Dallas, because of the charged competition, he did not get room to show what he was in it. Matěj Blümel will try happiness on the east coast of the US – shortly after the opening of the free players market signed at Boston Bruins.
“Boston gave me the biggest logic to the agents to finally play in the NHL. I dealt with more teams – Utah, Detroit, La, Dallas, Winnipeg. But at the end I decided between Boston and Pittsburgh,” says the holder of the MS 2022.
So why did you choose Boston?
They make reconstruction and have vacancies in the roles I would like to get into. There are also Czechs, which played a little role.
But Florida should be interested in David Pastrňák…
The only Czech players I have called with was the paste. He left the decision to me, nor Pittsburgh would not be a bad decision. But he said they would like me, and that I could help them.
So what could be the role in the team?
After the season I had, I would like to win a similar role as on the farm. I hope I could fight for power play, be as much as possible in the line -up.
“David Pastrňák wanted me to help Boston.”
Are you attracted to play with a Pastrňák or retain?
Clearly! If there is the chance, it would be great.
This year you felt you had on the NHL, did you?
I tried it for the first year, but now I felt much better. I got used to the NHL with every match. Of course I was hoping for more matches this year, unfortunately it did not turn out for more starts (7). But I had a good season in the AHL, which I enjoyed very much, I played a lot, we scored goals and the coaches believed me. We also had a great team. And I proved that I could play the NHL. I’m curious now how it works.
Wasn’t the new contract with Dallas in the game?
It was said that our farm coach could go there. I was thinking about it, it could help in my decision – on the other hand, it was just speculation. And I decided differently. I’m very happy for Boston.
“I got used to the NHL with every match.”
Did you have the same agent Aleš Volek with the Pastrňák?
Certainly it is a bonus – thanks to Alvo we know each other, so we could talk about Boston. Now I would like to start training in fourteen days – on ice with Radek Duda and dry in Staca.
What are you most looking forward to in Boston?
In fact, especially for the new chance to show what I learned, what I have built for the last three seasons. I hope that I can sell it… Of course the New Town, Boston is said to be beautiful, more in European style. I look forward to seeing it there. There will probably be comfortable there at the end of the year. (laughs)
“I look forward to a new chance.”
You just have to buy winter jackets and move things from Texas, right?
I have done it a lot. Before I flew home from America, I took the most necessary things. I left some of them in the car, which I left with one Czech family.
Do you also have a goal for the Olympics?
I don’t have it in my head. I know it will be… But it’s still far away and I want to succeed in the NHL. Then I can start hoping during the season, if everything was good and I did.

Dominic Dubovči’s view
On the Dallas Farm, Matěj Blümel became the best scorer of AHL with 39 goals, and Radim Rulík and Jiří Šlégr praised him several times. He played for almost twenty minutes for the match, the team relied not only on power play, but also on the weakening. Such versatility is valued overseas, the Pardubice offspring also has speed and diligence. At least this year he has already acted as an NHL hockey player.
Among the best on the farm was the view of extended statistics – whether it was the game superiority or missiles from the pre -bar space, the wounds of the first, checking the puck and the recording. This skater won’t get lost in Boston.
