“It’s not about students doing their best, but about letting them start moving first.” This sentence appeared in the classroom of Professor Huang Meiyao, director of the Institute of Sports of National Sports University of Taiwan, ignited a torch of educational thinking. A group of physical education teachers from Malaysian Chinese Independent Middle School who are carrying out teaching missions embarked on a learning journey across the strait from June 4 to 9. They came to learn and returned with full vision.

Sign a memorandum of cooperation and enter the new page of physical education
Good news came on the first day of the study camp: 16 Chinese Independent Chinese Schools and the National Sports University officially signed a memorandum of cooperation (MOU), laying the foundation for cooperation for co-construction of courses, teacher training and teaching internships. Qiu Bingkun, president of the National Sports University, pointed out that the school has opened the “independent high school principal recommendation system” since last year, and students can directly attend the school by recommending it; at the same time, they will cooperate with Dong Zong to set up overseas sports master’s classes to create a channel for further education for physical education teachers.
He particularly emphasized that the National Sports University has many professors with rich experience in writing lesson plans and is willing to assist the Chinese Independent High School in making greater progress in curriculum research and development and teaching practice.
Liang Zhencong, convener of the Sports Working Group of the Student Affairs Committee of the Working Committee of the Dongjiao Independent High School and vice president of the Kuala Lumpur Cong Independent High School, serves as the head of the study group. In his speech, he said: “This is a cross-regional, high-level professional study project, and it is also the starting point for the exchange of ideas, the establishment of friendship and cooperation.”
Six-day intensive study: from theory, practice to cross-border dialogue
This study course is compact and rich in content, integrating the core themes of modern physical education, covering:
- Special lectures and teaching theory sharing
- National Sports University Special Sports Guide and Teaching Observation
- Physical fitness promotion and course design practice
- Outdoor adventure experience and practical exploration
- Physical Education Curriculum Planning and Teacher Teaching Exchange
One of the highlights of the study is to combine theoretical teaching with practical operations, allowing teachers to personally experience the possibility of teaching design in sports games and situational simulation, and further improve their understanding and mastery of physical education teaching.
The teaching team includes many senior teachers from the National Sports University, such as Professor Huang Meiyao, Director of the Institute of Physical Education, Professor Hong Fuyuan, Director of the General Education Center, Associate Professor Zhang Ruiyu of the Department of Physical Education, Professor Andy Lin, Head of the Teaching and Internship Tutoring Group, and Associate Professor Wang Junjie of the Department of Leisure Industry Management.

In addition, all students also visited the Sports Museum and various sports facilities of the National Sports University to further understand the system architecture and professional fields of Taiwan’s sports development.
Rope Challenge Class: Building New Teaching Thinking in Adventure
“As long as it is a learning environment, it is a classroom.” The outdoor challenge course led by Associate Professor Wang Junjie emphasizes the use of real experience to trigger learning. Through the challenge of high and low altitude ropes, teachers personally participate in task-oriented activities, and then understand their application value in physical education teaching.
This type of course not only strengthens physical fitness development, but also provides rich teaching ideas, including:
- Cross-domain curriculum design (Sports × Environment)
- Group cooperation and communication training
- Cultivate students’ autonomy and leadership
- Risk Assessment and Outdoor Teaching Safety Management
- Inspiration for task-oriented courses
This type of course allows teachers to gain inspiration from “hands-on” and is in line with the teaching trend of modern education that emphasizes “active participation” and “real situation”.


Enter Shoushan High School and enter the on-site teaching
Taoyuan Shoushan High School, as one of the exchange visiting points, is a school that attaches importance to the development of sports. Its course is unique and has a sports class. After 2 pm, it is the physical education study period. The school is equipped with a sports comprehensive training center and school teams such as women’s basketball, tug of war, baseball, and judo.
Shoushan High School Principal Huang Huacai personally received the Malaysian physical education teacher team, mentioning that the school was founded in 1960 and had also gone to Malaysian Chinese Independent High School for academic exchanges in the past. She invited teachers to participate in sports experience courses and experience different projects.



This type of school-based visits and interactive experience not only broadens teachers’ horizons, but also deepens their understanding of physical education course design, venue management and school-based characteristics construction.
Continue to promote more joint projects to make physical education more than just a discipline
This study camp not only deepened educational exchanges between the two places, but also ignited the motivation for the continuous further study and practical innovation of physical education teachers in Chinese independent middle schools. With the assistance and promotion of Professor Huang Yongkuan, Minister of the Promotion Education Center of the National Sports University, the Dong Zong and the National Sports University will continue to promote more joint projects, special seminars, practical courses and talent exchange plans, and strive to make physical education an important bridge connecting regions and cultivating the future together.
Physical education is not only a technical training, but also a field of value transmission and cultural cultivation. This Taiwan study journey not only broadens the horizons, but also builds a bridge formed by interweaving belief and enthusiasm.
