One of the brightest minds in the history of Brazilian journalism left us. At 90, Ruy Carlos Ostermann died on Friday (27) in Porto Alegre. The funeral will be this Saturday (28), at 10am, in the Legislative Assembly.
The teacher, the man who revolutionized the sports chronicle in Rio Grande do Sul, Leave the children Cristiane, Fernanda and Felipe and five grandchildren. His wife, Nilce, died in 2021, after 58 years of marriage.
According to daughter Cristiane Ostermann, he was hospitalized since May at Moinhos de Vento Hospital in Porto Alegre after contracting dengue. According to the hospital’s note, he died due to complications arising from pneumonia.

Born in São Leopoldo, September 26, 1934, Ostermann began his career in journalism in 1962when he joined Caldas Júnior, where he stood out at Radio Guaíba and in the newspapers Folha da Esportiva, Folha da Tarde and Morning Folha.
From 1978, he joined the RBS Group And soon took over the post of main sports commentator of Radio Gaúcha and columnist for Zero Hora. In parallel, he studied philosophy and then became a teacher at UFRGS, which led him to be known as a teacher, a nickname he carried for the rest of his life.

Before journalism and philosophy, however, Ruy was already linked to sports. Was a player of the youth teams of Nacional and Aimoré, both from São Leopoldo, and then He had a victorious career in basketball, a sport in which he even defended the Rio Grande do Sul team.
From the moment he sat in a newsroom for the first time, he used the experience gained on courts and fields to philosophical studies and Created a unique style of analyzing football. And he did it pioneering, contributing to a new way of seeing the sport as a universe to be explored.
