Ruy Carlos Ostermann: Gaucho Journalism Icon Dies at 90

Ruy Carlos Ostermann was known by the teacher’s affectionate nickname.

One of the brightest minds in the history of Brazilian journalism left us. At 90, Ruy Carlos Ostermann died on Friday (27) in Porto Alegre. The funeral will be this Saturday (28), at 10am, in the Legislative Assembly.

The teacher, the man who revolutionized the sports chronicle in Rio Grande do Sul, Leave the children Cristiane, Fernanda and Felipe and five grandchildren. His wife, Nilce, died in 2021, after 58 years of marriage.

According to daughter Cristiane Ostermann, he was hospitalized since May at Moinhos de Vento Hospital in Porto Alegre after contracting dengue. According to the hospital’s note, he died due to complications arising from pneumonia.
