Robot Football AI: China’s 3v3 Game Debut

The robots on the field are ready to go to welcome the battle of green grass; the robots off the field “weeping and sending” show the advantages of “society”. On June 28, the 2025 RoBoLeague Robot Football League (hereinafter referred to as “Ji Chao”) finals staged a peak battle at the Beijing Smart E-sports Event Center in Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone (Beijing Yizhuang). After 3 hours of competition, the Vulcan team from Tsinghua University won the championship.

This “Job Super” is not only the first test match of the 2025 World Humanoid Robot Games and the first domestic robot football 3v3 AI game, but will also become a landmark scene for the cross-border integration of artificial intelligence and high-end manufacturing industries. Four teams from the Blaze team of Beijing University of Information Technology, Tsinghua University Future Laboratory Power Intelligent Team, Tsinghua University Vulcan Team, and China Agricultural University Shanhai Team, have presented a “new” football match feast that combines science and technology and competition for the audiences on and outside the venue.

At 6:30 pm, the long-awaited “Ji Chao” officially kicked off. The “Ancient and Early Powerful Team” Vulcan team and the powerful “Light Chaser” Blaze Light Rain team were the first to enter the game mode. The former defeated the host German Sweaty team 9:0 in the final of the German Open World Cup this year’s RoboCup Robot World Cup, and won the championship. As a strong alliance between the Water team and the I-Kid team of Beijing University of Information Technology, the latter’s strength cannot be underestimated. In the end, the Vulcan team led 9:3. Subsequently, Shanhai Team, which held high the battle flag of “using competitions to promote research and making extraordinary intelligence”, and the only rookie team that reached the finals, Power Intelligent Team also showed their skills on the field. In the end, Shanhai Team won the second stage 4:2.

With the joint kick-off between the teenagers from Beijing and Guizhou, the final officially began. In the decisive game, the robot players of the Vulcan team and the Shanhai team “touched head-on” and staged a wonderful showdown. One minute after the start of the game, the Vulcan team scored a goal first, and then the Shanhai team tied. The second team always chases each other. There were cheers coming one after another on the scene. As the game came to an end, the Vulcans finally locked the score at 5:3 and won the final victory. “We are very excited at this moment. This championship is the result of the long-term technical accumulation and tacit cooperation of the entire team. We always believe that robot football is not only a competition of technology, but also a spiritual manifestation of “loving to drive innovation and achieving outstanding collaboration”. In the future, we will continue to explore the track of artificial intelligence and robotics with this belief.” said Wang Yushi, captain of the Vulcan team.

It is understood that this event uses the “accelerated evolution” humanoid robot “accelerated T1” as the standard platform for the event. As an event where all participating robots are independently conducted through AI strategies, this year’s “Jiang Super” has achieved two landmark breakthroughs: all participating robots rely entirely on AI strategies to operate independently, without the intervention of human protectors, and can independently complete fall and get up; an optimized penalty mechanism is adopted to significantly reduce competition interruptions and improve fluency and intensity of confrontation. The event fully demonstrated the technical achievements of robots in the fields of motion control, visual perception, positioning and navigation, decision-making planning and multi-machine collaboration. “Competitive competitions are the best training ground, which can promote the iteration of algorithms and software and hardware technology the most quickly. Moreover, the development of robot football technology is not limited to competitive arenas, but its core technologies such as high-precision motion control, dynamic environment perception, and multi-machine collaborative decision-making are penetrating into a wider range of industrial and life scenarios.” Cheng Hao, founder of Accelerated Evolution, said.

In August this year, Beijing will also hold the World Humanoid Robot Games. With the emergence of the global brand effect of the “one meeting and one competition” of humanoid robots in Beijing, Beijing Yizhuang will also rise to become one of the world-class stages for the integration of humanoid robot technology competition and industry. Next, Beijing Yizhuang will continue to deepen the construction of the robot industry ecosystem, promote collaborative innovation of brain, cerebellum, ontology, and core components enterprises, promote the deep integration of industry, academia and research, accelerate the breakthrough of key core technologies, transform the influence of events into a driving force to support the industrialization of humanoid robots, and accelerate the construction of a leading domestic and international first-class embodied intelligent robot industry demonstration city.
