The Dutch 3×3 basketball players were eliminated by Germany in the interim round of the World Cup. Bryan Alberts, Jan Driessen, Worthy de Jong and Dimeo van der Horst were on the lead almost the entire competition, but saw Germany come alongside in the final minute.
De Jong had a final chance in Ulaanbaatar in the last seconds to save his team. But as he did before in the Olympic final, among other things, it just didn’t work against Germany: 18-19.
It is the first time that Germany reached the quarterfinals at a World Cup. A meeting awaits with the divided States. The Americans, world champion in 2019 and at the last edition in 2023 losing finalist, are still unbeaten at the World Cup.
Earlier in the day, the Dutch women penetrated to the quarterfinals. After a simple victory over Hungary (21-9), Australia is waiting for them now.

Partly due to a good long shot by Van der Horst, the Dutch men took an early lead for two points that rose to 7-3. The duels with the Germans were solid from the start, so that both teams piled up mistakes with the risk of free throws for the opponent.
It didn’t bother Orange, they didn’t miss this World Cup yet and could lean on the lead taken. When even Driessen full of self -confidence hit, not exactly his trademark, there seemed to be no dirt in the air.
But the Germans fought back in the final phase, the Dutch lead was reduced from 16-10 to a difference of only one point.
With two striking free throws, Fabian Giessmann turned it to a German lead. An impressive Dunk by Sidi Beikame then hit like a bomb. The Netherlands still poured an ultimate last chance, but from De Jong’s familiar hands, the ball came back from the basket, which means that the World Cup is over.
The Dutch men achieved silver twice on a World Cup (2017 and 2018), at the last edition (2023), the Orange failed in the quarterfinals.
