Catalan Football in Puerto Rico: Mic Tournament Success

The philosophy of Catalan football has thrown roots in Central America and is having an important role in the present edition of the MIC that will be held in Punta Cana (Dominican Republic). The FC Academy Catala, a regular of this famous tournament, will participate in the competition but with five teams that emerged from Puerto Rico.

The project is led by Xavi Mondelo, who worked for 12 years for FC Barcelona in different international projects in Japan, Korea or China until he began directing all the academies of the Barca club in America.

Working at Puerot Rico, he decided to start a new football project called Catala FC Academy that currently has academies not only in Puerto Rico but also in El Salvador and in Miami. “It is a way to start an international, professional project, which serves for Puerto Rico, El Salvador and Miami to compete,” Mondelo explains.

Since last Wednesday, five teams participate in the MIC Punta Cana with players formed mostly in Puerto Rico and the United States.
