Grafing Outdoor Pool Prices too Rise: Is Your Summer Swim Getting More Expensive?

Get ready to shell out a bit more for your summer dip! The Grafing city council has approved an increase in admission prices for the Grafing outdoor pool, effective for the 2025 season. Citing rising personnel, maintenance, and management costs, officials say the price hike is necessary to maintain the pool’s operations. The last price adjustment occurred in 2022, with a prior increase in 2019.

Mayor Christian Bauer addressed the city council, stating, we are concerned about increasing costs. We still have moderate prices compared to other surrounding outdoor pools. The opposite is twice as high energy costs in the past year and higher personnel costs, since we have taken over the indoor pool in Ebersberg. This mirrors similar situations faced by community pools across the U.S., where rising operational costs often led to tough decisions about pricing and accessibility.

Why the Price Hike? A deeper Dive

The Grafing outdoor pool is a popular destination, attracting approximately 90,000 visitors annually. This highlights its importance to local tourism and recreation. While a swimming course program launched in 2021 has boosted revenue, the pool still operates at a important deficit. Since 2020,the deficit has ballooned by €100,000,reaching €680,000.

Think of it like your local minor league baseball team. Even with ticket sales and concessions, many teams rely on public funding or private investment to stay afloat. Similarly, the Grafing pool, despite its popularity, requires financial support to remain open.

The city administration is also eliminating pre-sale discounts on season tickets and increasing the replacement fee for lost season tickets from €3 to €5. Moreover, swimming clubs will be asked to contribute financially this season.
