Nepal’s Baseball Blossoms: A Thriving Tournament and Global ties
Spring training has begun in Japan, a vibrant prelude to the baseball season. Meanwhile, the global baseball community is buzzing with activity, highlighted by the recent “1st Baseball United Arab Classic” in Dubai. This tournament, hosted by the Baseball United league, marks a meaningful step in the sport’s expansion across the Middle East and South Asia.
A Celebration of Teamwork in lalitpur
The 3rd NBSA Laligurans Cup 2024, held in Lalitpur, Nepal, showcased the burgeoning passion for baseball in the region. Spanning two days, December 27th and 28th, the tournament attracted over a hundred participants, including players, coaches, and spectators from across Nepal.

The tournament’s third iteration saw a smooth and evolving format, including an opening ceremony with a march.
This growing event is fostering a love of baseball among Nepal’s youth. NBSA President Dipak Neupane emphasized the tournament’s significance, highlighting the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship.
Global Connections and a Legacy
The NBSA Laligurans Cup is part of a larger international sports exchange initiative, the “Nepal Baseball 25th Anniversary Japan Nepal Sports Exchange Program 2024-2025.” This program, part of the SFT Action+ project, fosters collaboration between Japan and Nepal.
Three NBSA executives, including chairman Dipak Neupane, will travel to Japan to participate in the Osaka Marathon 2025.
This trip will allow them to experience a large-scale sporting event and learn from Japan’s sports progress model.
This exchange underscores the growing global connections within the baseball community. The trip will also deepen the friendship between Japan and Nepal.
A Tribute to a Pioneer
Sadly, former Hanshin Tigers manager Yoshida Yoshio passed away on February 3rd. Yoshida’s guidance and support were instrumental in the early development of baseball in Nepal. His contributions are deeply appreciated, and his memory will continue to inspire the growth of the sport in Nepal.
