David Beckham (DB): Well, firstly, I think it’s incredibly difficult to compare players from different eras. Every generation has their own superstars. But when you look at Messi’s career – the longevity, the consistency, the sheer volume of goals and assists – it’s hard to look past him.
I mean, the guy has won seven Ballon d’Or awards. He’s the all-time leading scorer for both barcelona and the Argentina national team. And he’s still going strong at 34 years old. That’s what sets him apart for me.

SE: Speaking of fluctuating form, let’s talk about Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side started the season like champions but has since faced challenges. How would you asses their campaign so far?
DB: I think it’s meaningful to remember that every great club goes through moments like this. City has been dominant for several seasons now, and with that comes expectations – maybe even too much expectation.
They’ve lost some key players,like Sergio Agüero and David Silva,and integrating new ones like Jack Grealish takes time. The squad needs to gel, and sometimes that process can lead to some rocky results.
But let’s not forget, City is still miles clear at the top of the Premier League table. And they’re still in the Champions League. They’re going through a phase, not a crisis.
SE: Some critics argue that Guardiola’s tactics have grown stale,that opponents havefigured him out. do you agree?
DB: I think that’s a bit harsh. Pep is one of the best coaches in the world. His trophy cabinet speaks for itself. Every manager has a style, and sometimes other teams can figure that out for a while. But pep is also an unbelievable tactician who can adapt.
Look at the way he’s integrated a false nine this season,with players like Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva playing in that ‘center-forward’ role. it’s different, it’s innovative, and it shows that Pep is always evolving.

We’re still in our infancy as a club, but the support has been incredible. The fans here are passionate, and they want to see success. We’re building something special, and I’m proud to be a part of it.
SE: As the founder of Inter Miami, what’s your vision for the club in the next five years? Do you see them challenging for MLS Cup and maybe even making it to the Concacaf Champions League?
DB: Absolutely. I want Inter Miami to be a accomplished, competitive club that represents the diverse community here in Miami. In five years, I want us to be challenging for trophies, both domestically and in the Concacaf region.
We’ve got a young, talented squad with plenty of potential. And with the ideology we’re implementing, I’m confident we can achieve that success.

SE: You’ve made a successful transition from football to business since retiring. What advice would you give to young athletes looking to do the same?
DB: I think it’s important to have a plan, to think about your future beyond football. When I was playing, I was always interested in business, in understanding how things worked. that curiosity served me well after retiring.
I’d also say, don’t be afraid to take risks. Starting a new business,like a football club,is a big risk. But if you believe in your vision, you should go for it.
SE: You’ve also made significant contributions to fashion and philanthropy.Do you see yourself exploring these areas more in the future?
DB: Yes, definitely. Fashion is something I’ve always been interested in, and I’ve been lucky enough to work with some great brands over the years. I’d love to do more in that space, maybe even create my own label one day.
And with philanthropy, I’m really passionate about using my platform to make a difference. I’ve worked with UNICEF for many years,and I’m always looking for new ways to use my voice to support causes I believe in.
