Raiders Shake Up Front Office After Disappointing Season
The Las vegas Raiders are undergoing a major organizational overhaul following a dismal 4-13 season. On Thursday, the team announced the dismissal of General Manager Tom Telesco, just a year after his appointment. This move follows the departure of Head Coach Antonio Pierce on Tuesday, signaling a complete reset for the franchise.
“We acknowledge Tom’s contributions in establishing a foundation for the future and extend our best wishes to him and his family,” the Raiders stated in a press release.
This marks a rare occurrence in NFL history. The Raiders become only the second team as 1967 to embark on three consecutive seasons with entirely new leadership at both the head coach and general manager positions. The Cleveland Browns achieved this unusual distinction between 2012 and 2014.
Looking ahead, Josh McDaniels will take the helm as head coach, partnered with General Manager Dave Ziegler for the 2023 season.
While Telesco’s tenure was short-lived, he did make a positive impact during the 2023 draft. He secured highly-touted offensive prospect Brock Bowers in the first round, along with two promising offensive linemen. However, Telesco’s inability to address the team’s glaring need for a franchise quarterback proved to be a notable setback.His decision to sign Gardner Minshew to a two-year, $25 million contract ultimately backfired. Minshew initially won the starting quarterback position during training camp but was replaced by Aidan O’Connell after only five weeks.
With the arrival of new minority owner Tom Brady, the Raiders’ operations may see a shift in direction. Brady’s extensive experience and football acumen could lead to a more hands-on approach in shaping the team’s future.

Mark Brunell: Well, it’s certainly a bold move, that’s for sure. This team desperately needed a change after a 4-13 season. Bringing in fresh perspectives can be good, but the question is, will it translate to wins on the field? Three consecutive years with new leadership is risky, almost unheard of in the NFL.
Moderator: You hit the nail on the head with the “risky” part. You mentioned the “unheard of” aspect, reminding us that only the 2012-2014 Cleveland Browns have followed this trajectory since 1967. Do you think the Raiders are setting themselves up for even more instability, or is there a method to this apparent madness?
Mark Brunell: I wouldn’t say it’s madness, exactly. But it’s definitely a high-stakes gamble. There’s no guarantee that McDaniels and ziegler will be the right fit. remember, McDaniels had a rough stint as head coach in Denver. And while the draft class Telesco put together last year was promising, it’s clear they still have a major quarterback problem.
Moderator: Speaking of the quarterback situation, that’s the elephant in the room, isn’t it? Telesco’s signing of Gardner Minshew backfired spectacularly, and the team cycled through options like a carousel. Do you think Tom Brady’s arrival, even as a minority owner, could influence the quarterback decision-making process?
Mark Brunell: Brady’s presence undoubtedly adds a layer of intrigue. his knowledge of the game is unparalleled, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a strong voice in how they approach the quarterback position. Maybe they look to draft a young QB, or perhaps they make a splash in free agency. Either way, Brady’s stamp will be all over it.
Moderator: You’ve seen it firsthand—the highs and lows of a franchise trying to find its identity. What’s your advice for the Raiders as they embark on this new chapter?
Mark Brunell: patience. It takes time to build a contender, especially when you’re making such significant changes. They need to give McDaniels and Ziegler the support they need, trust their expertise, and avoid knee-jerk reactions.
and most importantly, they need to find that franchise quarterback. That’s the missing piece of the puzzle.
