But what does it take to earn a place in Cooperstown? The Baseball Hall of Fame recognizes not only players but also managers, executives, and umpires who have made notable contributions to the sport.

There are two primary pathways to immortality in Cooperstown:
1. the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) Election:
This is the most common route, requiring candidates to secure at least 75% of the votes cast by eligible BBWAA members.
2. The Veterans Committee:
This committee considers players, managers, executives, and umpires who have been retired for at least 15 years and haven’t been elected by the BBWAA.
In both cases, candidates who fall short of the 75% threshold can be re-nominated in subsequent years.
While Suzuki appears destined for Cooperstown, CC Sabathia is another strong contender, currently holding 91.3% of the publicly revealed votes. Sardell projects Sabathia to ultimately receive 88% of the total vote, solidifying his place among baseball’s elite.

Thome: CC is a warrior. He pitched with heart and was a fierce competitor throughout his career. He was instrumental in bringing a World Series title to New York,and his career WAR is notable. I believe 80% is a great number; he has every right to be inducted into Cooperstown.

Thome: It’s essential. Baseball is a sport that teaches life lessons about hard work, dedication, teamwork, and respect. When people like Ichiro and Sabathia exemplify these values, it speaks volumes about the kind of role models they are for young athletes and fans alike.

Thome: It’s a system that has worked for many years. Of course, there will always be discussions about individual cases, but ultimately, having a dedicated group like the BBWAA make these tough decisions is crucial.
