His journey, from a successful career in engineering and corporate management to his current role as assistant coach for Pallacanestro Trieste, is a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence.
While the holiday season often offers a respite from the demanding world of professional sports, Coach Taccio’s dedication knows no bounds. Even during Christmas, his focus remained on the team, ensuring they were prepared for upcoming matches. This unwavering commitment, he explains, stems from a deep-seated passion for the game that rekindled after a period of professional fulfillment.
Prior to his coaching career, Taccetti thrived in the corporate world. With an engineering degree, he spent eleven years honing his skills in various industries, including a five-year stint at Nike where he managed IT infrastructure for new store openings. later, he transitioned to a family-owned cement company, taking on roles ranging from project management to plant management.
Despite his success, Taccetti felt a growing disconnect between his work and his personal aspirations. Both environments demand a results-oriented mindset, strategic thinking, and the ability to work effectively within a team. He highlights the rigorous selection process he underwent to join Pallacanestro Trieste, which involved multiple interviews with both the coach and general manager, mirroring the in-depth vetting process common in corporate hiring.
Beyond the court, Coach Taccio finds solace and rejuvenation in running. this passion, cultivated during his time at Nike, has become an integral part of his life. Trieste, he notes, offers an ideal environment for runners, with diverse terrains ranging from flat coastal paths to challenging uphill trails.
Coach Taccio’s story is a compelling reminder that passion and dedication can lead to unexpected and fulfilling career paths. His journey from engineer to coach exemplifies the power of pursuing one’s dreams, even when they lie outside the realm of traditional expectations.

Your story is truly inspiring. You spent over a decade thriving in the corporate world, even reaching management positions at prestigious companies like Nike. What prompted this shift from a accomplished engineering career to the demanding world of professional basketball coaching?
Coach Taccetti:
While I enjoyed my time in the corporate world, I always felt a disconnect. Basketball was my true passion; it was something I deeply loved. A chance meeting with a former coach reignited that flame. It made me realize that life is too short to not pursue what truly fuels your soul. Coaching offered me the unique possibility to combine my analytical skills with my love for the game, creating a fulfilling career path I never knew existed.

It’s admirable how you identified that dissonance and courageously pursued your passion. Many would shy away from such a drastic change. You mentioned your analytical skills honed during your corporate career. Do you find these skills beneficial in your coaching approach?
Coach Taccetti:
Absolutely. Basketball, at its core, is a game of strategy, just like business. analyzing opponent weaknesses, formulating game plans, and making in-game adjustments require careful observation and strategic thinking, skills I developed during my time in engineering and management. I beleive this unique blend of analytical precision and deep-seated passion for the game sets me apart as a coach.

(chuckles) In professional basketball, the game doesn’t stop for holidays. It’s a 24/7 commitment. While I cherish time with family during these periods, I also understand the duty I have towards my team. Their success depends on our dedication, year-round.
