Christo Popov: 3 Standout Performances

It’s simply enormous what Christo Popov has achieved. For his first participation in singles at the World Tour Finals, a tournament which brings together the 8 best players in the world at the end of the year, the badista from Fos beat the world numbers 2, 3 and 5 in the group stage, just that!

He was already assured of his qualification in the 1/2 finals of the World Tour Finals, that did not prevent Christo Popov (8th in the world) from delivering another superb performance today by dominating the world n°5, the Indonesian Jonatan Christie 18/21, 21/16 and 21/13.

The badista from Fos therefore achieved an incredible 3 out of 3 in the group stage of this tournament bringing together the 8 best players in the world in Hangzhou, China. On Wednesday, for his entry into the running, Christo Popov had already been impressive against the world No. 3, the Dane Anders Antosen 21/13, 12/21 and 21/19. He then did it again admirably yesterday against the world No. 2, the Thai Kunlavut Vitidsarn 21/11, 18/21 and 21/10.

Le Fosséen, who had announced before the tournament that he was aiming for the podium, is now one step away from the final. He will play his 1/2 tomorrow against the Japanese Kodai Naraoka (9th in the world). The other 1/2 will pit the world number 2, the Thai Vitidsarn, against the world number 1, the Chinese Shi Yu Gi.
