Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty kicked off their campaign at the Indonesia Masters 2025 with a dominant performance in the men’s doubles category on Tuesday in Jakarta. The Indian duo,currently ranked ninth globally in men’s doubles,showcased their prowess by defeating Chinese Taipei’s Chen Zhi-Ray and Lin Yu-Chieh with a scoreline of 21-16,21-15 in a swift 30-minute match.
Despite trailing 11-10 at the mid-game interval in the first set, the Indian shuttlers turned the tide post-break, seizing control and securing the lead. The second game was a display of sheer dominance as they raced to an 11-5 advantage at the halfway mark, maintaining their momentum to clinch the match comfortably.
In the women’s doubles category, Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto delivered a commanding performance against Thailand’s Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn and Sukitta Suwachai. The Indian pair dominated the first game 21-6 and overcame a brief challenge in the second to win 21-14, advancing to the next round with ease.
On the singles front, indian players had mixed results in the qualification rounds. In women’s singles, Indonesia’s Chiara Marvella Handoyo edged past Isharani Baruah with a hard-fought 21-18, 22-20 victory. Meanwhile, Tanya Hemnath staged a remarkable comeback after losing the first game to defeat Chinese taipei’s Tung Ciou-tong 16-21, 21-17, 21-15. In men’s singles, Ayush Shetty stunned former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth in an all-Indian clash, winning 21-7, 21-15.
