A Thriving Archery Club in Chauvigny
The Chauvigny archery club, les Archers d’Harcourt, is experiencing a period of remarkable growth and success. With a membership of 78, including a record 38% women, the club boasts a vibrant and diverse community.
“We’ve never seen such a balanced gender portrayal,” says club president Sébastien Rône. “Our youth program is also flourishing.”
This success is further underscored by the club’s recent achievement of the ”Ambition” label, a recognition of its commitment too inclusivity and competitive excellence.
“Having dedicated individuals on our board and committee is a true blessing,” Rône shares.”This new label, following our ‘Espoir’ designation, elevates us thanks to our strong female participation and the presence of two competitive archers. Everything is going exceptionally well; I’m a vrey happy president.”
Adding to the club’s triumphs is the prosperous organization of a prestigious archery competition. The 18-meter selective event, a qualifier for the 2025 French Championships in both pulley and classic categories, drew 170 archers from across France.
National Champions Emerge from Chauvigny
The competition showcased exceptional talent, including Paralympic athlete Julie Chupin.A native of Deux-Sèvres and a member of the Ruelle-sur-touvre club in Charente, Chupin secured 5th place at the Tokyo Paralympics and 6th place in Paris.
“The Paris Games where an amazing experiance, filled with emotion and the energy of the crowd,” Chupin reflects.”It was truly inspiring.”
A dedicated athlete since 2014, Chupin trains rigorously, dedicating 13 to 17 hours per week to archery, complemented by strength training, swimming, and mental preparation. Her sights are set on the World Championships in September and the Los Angeles Games.
Another notable competitor with ties to Chauvigny is Alexis Charaudeau, now based in Barcelonnette.
“My archery journey began in Chauvigny in 2013,” Charaudeau recalls. “That’s where I discovered my passion for the sport and the thrill of competition. I went on to become the French champion in field archery, and now I’m aiming for the European Championship qualifiers.”
Local talent Sophie Rouzé, a member of Les Archers d’Harcourt, also participated.A pulley archer for a decade, Rouzé achieved the title of French champion in the senior 1 category for outdoor archery at 50 meters last June. Despite a wrist fracture in October, she remains resolute to qualify for the upcoming indoor French Championships.
The Chauvigny archery club is clearly a breeding ground for champions, fostering a supportive environment where athletes of all levels can thrive.
