Judo Safari 2024: A Thrilling adventure for Young Judokas
On November 29, 2024, the 1st Viernheimer Judo Club eV embarked on an exciting journey, hosting a Judo Safari for children and young people up to 14 years old. This unique event, held in the Schillerschule hall, was more then just a competition—it was an adventure, complete with a mascot, Movelino, from the German Youth Sports Association, to guide the participants.
What is a Judo Safari?
The term “safari” translates to “journey,” and this event was designed to be just that—a journey through the world of judo. Nineteen young judokas embarked on this adventure, divided into three engaging parts.
Part 1: The Japanese Tournament
The first segment was a Japanese tournament, where participants competed in matches close to their weight class. This allowed them to showcase their judo skills and experience in a competitive setting.
Part 2: Creative Expression
In the creative segment, the young judokas had 10 minutes to paint a picture that captured the essence of judo and the theme of safari. This exercise encouraged them to express their understanding and passion for judo through art.
Part 3: Athletics Challenge
The athletics portion was divided into three categories: a sprint competition, forearm support, and a medicine ball throw. These activities tested the participants’ agility, strength, and coordination.
Fair Competition Across Age Groups
To ensure fair competition, participants were divided into three age groups. This allowed each child to compete on an even playing field, making the event both challenging and enjoyable.
Fun and Rewards
Throughout the event, participants enjoyed stickers, skin tattoos, and a jungle drink, adding to the festive atmosphere. After the points were tallied, each participant received a safari sticker sheet, a certificate, and a patch. These patches, featuring animals in colors analogous to belt colors, could be proudly worn on their judo suits.
