Zulte Waregem’s Season Ends in Disappointment: Misses Objective in Lommel Defeat

Zulte Waregem bit the dust in Lommel. The Essevee misses the objective of its season.

This season, Zulte Waregem never hid it: its objective was to immediately return to D1A after the collapse of last season. After all, the club had retained its strong elements like Ortwin De Wolf, Ruud Vormer, Christian Brüls, Alioune Ndour, Jelle Vossen and Zinho Gano.

But the season once again showed that it was very difficult to say goodbye to D1B so easily. Coaching duo fired after five days, checkered results, core under pressure: the last few months have been difficult at Gaverbeek.

Lommel emerges in the last quarter of an hour

It was thus in fifth place that the team concluded the classic phase, barely enough to secure a place in the Promotion Playoffs, but far from the very first roles aspired to.

Zulte will not even see the final of these Playoffs. The team of Vincent Euvrard was beaten 1-0 in Lommel after the 1-1 in the first leg.

It is therefore Lommel who will compete in this final against Deinze, victorious from Patro Eisden earlier in the day. The two clubs will meet in home and away matches on May 5 and 12 at 4:00 p.m. Then the winner will meet the runner-up in the Playdowns (currently the RWDM) for a new round-trip confrontation to access the D1A next season.
