Youth Judoka from Wimpassing Judo Club Shine at Strong International Tournament in Zeltweg

A strong international tournament for young judoka took place in Zeltweg. Over 1,000 participants from 15 nations took part in this tournament weekend. This tournament is considered one of the strongest youth tournaments in Austria. The fights were all the more challenging for the judoka from the Wimpassing Judo Club, but they took home two silver medals and five bronze medals.

The youngest fighters started in the U10 age group. Felix Fischer (-27 kg) fought for third place in a strong weight class with 25 starters. He only had to admit defeat to the eventual winner in the semi-finals. Oliver Rella (-24 kg) also won the bronze medal. After a narrow defeat and two victories and a lot of new fighting experience, he deserved to be on the podium.

In the U12 category, Marlene Lechner (-40 kg) was able to celebrate the silver medal with three wins and one defeat. Magdalena Klöckl (-28 kg) started the tournament with a win. She lost the semi-final due to a little carelessness. However, she was able to win the small final again and celebrated bronze at the end of the day. Skadi Brunner (-36 kg) fought her way to the quarter-finals, where she unfortunately had to admit defeat to the eventual winner. With three more victories, she was also able to celebrate the bronze medal in the end. Gor Hakobyan (-34 kg) was able to record two victories, but did not make it onto the podium.

Wimpassing U14 athletes were also able to celebrate two medals. Ilvie Brunner (-52 kg) fought her way to the semi-finals. There she had to admit defeat to her Israeli opponent after a long fight. For the fight for the bronze medal, she was able to pool all her strengths once again and win the fight. Yurik Hakobyan (-55 kg) was able to fight his way to the final with three ippon victories in his weight class with 19 starters. Here he had to admit defeat to his opponent at the last second and thus won the silver medal.

At the end of the day, the athletes in the U16 age group also took part. Thomas Seiser (-60 kg) narrowly missed out on a medal with two wins and two defeats and reached fifth place. Alexander Vrabetz (-66 kg) won a fight, but ultimately didn’t make it onto the podium.
