White Sox Pitchers Shine in 5-0 Win Over Blue Jays

Starting pitcher Garrett Crochet and three Chicago White Sox relievers limited the Blue Jays to two hits in a 5-0 win Tuesday night at the Rogers Center in Toronto.

Hook retired the first 13 batters he faced and allowed just two hits and one walk in six innings of work.

He allowed a double to Justin Turner in the fifth inning, as well as a single to Ernie Clement in the sixth.

John Brebbia, Jordan Leasure and Michael Kopech all pitched for one inning for the White Sox, allowing no hits.

“We hit a few balls with confidence, but didn’t create much,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. You have to take your hat off to a good pitcher on the other side, though. »

For its part, the Chicago team hit eight hits. Corey Julks and Danny Mendick each drove in two runs for the White Sox, who ended a four-game losing streak.

Crochet extended his personal best streak to 19 consecutive innings without allowing a run. He also leads the American League in strikeouts, with 74.

“I felt like I was pretty in control today,” Crochet said.

The White Sox, who have the worst record in the majors (15-34), scored an unearned run against Yusei Kikuchi in the second inning, before adding two more runs in the fifth.

Hook (5-4) struck out four batters and struck out on 55 of 85 pitches.

It was the White Sox’s first win in nine games against the Toronto team.

Kikuchi allowed two runs, five hits and three walks in six innings of work. He struck out six batters.

“I’m happy to have gotten this quality start and to have kept my team in the game, but in the end, we are no longer at the start (of the season), launched Kikuchi. You can’t be satisfied with a quality start. »

Mendick produced two additional runs with a double against pitcher Tim Mayza in the eighth inning.

The Blue Jays, last in the Eastern section of the American (21-26), will try to win their first series in a month, Wednesday against the same White Sox. Both teams have picked up one win so far in the three-game series.
