What is the Abodi reform, why is the world of sport against it and what are the interests at stake

Rome, 7 May. (Adnkronos/Labitalia) – A real gap within the gap. Which further widens the employment gap with men and marks a fracture, sometimes temporary, sometimes definitive, in the professional career of many female workers. It is the effect of motherhood on female careers, a common phenomenon at European level but with a particularly negative impact in a country like ours, in last place in Europe for female employment rate and with one of the lowest employment rates. fertility. In fact, if we look at the data (as of 2022), in our country only 51.1% of women between 15 and 64 work, compared to an EU27 average of 64.9%, and the average number of children per woman is 1.24 , a value far below countries such as France (1.79), Sweden (1.53) and the Netherlands (1.49).

The position of our country does not change if we consider female employment in the 25-49 age group – the period of life in which one tends to enter the job market and build a family – which sees women disadvantaged by around 20 points percentages on men and 14.6 on the EU average.

The strong penalization of mothers in the labor market is backed by a combination of social, demographic, cultural, regulatory and legislative factors which means that in our country the burden of care is still heavily unbalanced on women, who are employed on average for 4.9 hours per day in this type of activity compared to 2 for men, according to the latest published data (2023), for a total of 43.5 more days per year.

Reversing the trend, to correct one of the main factors of unsustainability of the labor market and of the entire country system, is necessary and urgent. The study by Fondazione Gi Group and Gi Group Holding, carried out in collaboration with Valore D’Donne, work and demographic challenges, outlines a direction.
