Washington Nationals Beat Boston Red Sox 5-1 Behind Strong Pitching Performance From Patrick Corbin

BOSTON —

Patrick Corbin allowed one run in five innings for his first win of the season, Trey Lipscomb hit a two-run single and the Washington Nationals beat the Boston Red Sox 5-1 on Friday.

Corbin (1-3) allowed seven hits and one walk, in a job that included four strikeouts, to improve his ERA from 6.45 to 5.91.

He allowed opponents to reach base in four of five innings. In the first he received help from Dominican right fielder Víctor Robles, who retired a runner with a throw home for the last out.

Robles and Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario had a pair of hits each as Washington moved above the .500 mark for the second time this season (19-18).

Garrett Cooper doubled to drive in Boston’s only run. Starter Tanner Houck (3-4) got into a couple of two-out troubles but went seven innings of three-run ball for Boston.

The right-hander struck out four and threw 95 pitches, of which 65 were strikes.

For the Nationals, Mexican Joey Meneses 4-1. Venezuelan Keibert Ruiz 1-for-4 with one run scored. Puerto Rican Rosario 4-1 with one scored. Dominican Robles was 1 for 4 with an RBI.

For the Red Sox, Dominican Rafael Devers 3-0. Venezuelan Wilyer Abreu 1-1.
