Viktor Axelsen Advances to Quarter-finals in Malaysia Masters Tournament

Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen advanced from the second round of the Super 500 tournament Malaysia Masters on Thursday after a 21-18, 21-13 victory over Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul from Thailand.

Thus, the Danish world number seven is ready for the quarter-finals in the tournament, which he has won once before. That was in 2020.

The two players followed each other to 5-5 in the first set, but from there Axelsen took over the match, which became a one-sided affair.

However, the Dane only needed three set points before the first set was won.

In the second set, Axelsen continued the superior style, and it was clear that the Dane was always a level above Thai Teeraratsakul.

After less than three quarters of badminton, Axelsen took advantage of his first match point and played his way through the tournament.

Earlier on Thursday, the men’s doubles with Rasmus Kjær and Frederik Søgaard also progressed in the tournament, when the pair beat two Koreans 21-16, 21-18.

The same success had the mixed doubles with Alexandra Bøje and Mathias Christiansen, who made short work of a victory in two sets, 21-10, 21-15, over a Malaysian pair.

However, the second mixed doubles with Mads Vestergaard and Christine Busch did not have the same wind in their sails. The two Danes lost in two sets to an Indonesian pair.
