Victor Wembanyama wins the ‘Rookie of the Year’ award in the NBA

MADRID, 7 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The French player of the San Antonio Spurs Victor Wembanyama, 20 years old and 2.24 meters tall, is the new NBA ‘Rookie of the Year’ after achieving unanimity in his election, thanks to his 21.4 points average and his importance in the Spurs project despite the bad season of the Texan franchise.

Wembanyama, by unanimous vote, edged out Oklahoma City Thunder insider Chet Holmgren and Charlotte Hornets forward Brandon Miller.

The new ‘Rookie of the Year’ finished his first NBA campaign averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists, in addition to leading the league with 3.6 blocks in less than half an hour of play on average.

The NBA also announced other awards, such as Philadelphia 76ers point guard Tyrese Maxey being chosen ‘Most Improved Player’ ahead of Alperen Sengün and Coby White, while the ‘Best Sixth Man’ is Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid.

On the other hand, the ‘Clutch Player of the Year’ went to Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, with Oklahoma City Thunder coach Mark Daigneault taking the ‘Coach of the Year’ award in the NBA.
