Ureta Tizona Burgos Group Prepares for Fourth Day of Playoffs after Victory over Guuk Gipuzkoa Basket

After this match, the players trained by Diego Ocampo are now concentrating on preparing for the fourth day of playoffson Sunday, May 26, at 5:00 p.m., at the Angulas Aguinaga Arena in San Sebastián.

Great start to the game for Tizona, imposing their rhythm with many quick points for a 9-17 when only 5 minutes of the game had been consumed. In those initial moments, the most in tune were Rodrigo Seoane and Demetric Horton, with good assists to the Tizona interiors. The locals began to cut back, and were only 3 behind with a basket by Ander Martínez (16-19). However, Caio Pacheco’s free throws, and two in a row from Jofresa, made it 16-25 with less than 1 minute left. Savkov, from the triple, closed the first quarter with 19-25.

The second did not start in such a positive way for Burgos interests. Despite Arnau Parrado’s triple, the locals took the lead with a run of 11-3. That made Diego Ocampo call a timeout at 7:40 before halftime with the score at 30-28. The person in charge of stopping the drought, although more than a minute after the break, was Abdou Thiam with a 2+1. After other moments of doubt, Ramón Vilà, with a dunk and a layup, scored for Tizona. However, after a new local basket, Ocampo requested a new timeout at 3:22 before halftime (44-35). Both teams began to exchange baskets, which benefited GBC, although a triple by Gerard Jofresa reduced the distance to 6 points in the last minute of the first half (50-44). Barcello scored from the triple, but Jofresa answered with a 3+1 to make it 53-48. However, another triple from the American sent the game to halftime at 56-48.

The people from Burgos came out with a different face in the third quarter, scoring the first two baskets of the quarter and making good defenses. The sensations continued to be very positive, with a dunk from Garmine Kande and a layup from Caio Pacheco they once again took the lead. A new score by Gerard Jofresa made Mikel Odriozola call a timeout with 5:31 left in the third with the score at 58-61. The black and whites remained motivated, and through Seoane and Vilà they made it 60-68 on the scoreboard. Although the GBC added with 2 free throws from Savkov, a layup by Ayoze Alonso made it 62-70 at the end of the third quarter.

Tizona came out strong again, with a long shot from Jacobo Díaz and a 2+1 from Mario Saint-Supéry. After a good defense, and Ayoze Alonso’s layup, the Burgos team put the difference at 10 points (67-77). After several minutes without scoring, but also holding off the Basque team in defense, Thiam performed a great action, blocking Aurrecoechea and going on the counterattack to score a dunk. However, the GBC center fouled the Senegalese, and in the heavy fall he had to be replaced. Then it was Jofresa who took his free throws to end the drought.

Although Oroz added, a free layup from Parrado forced Odriozola to call a timeout with 3:19 remaining (72-81). The points had to be fought for in each possession, almost always coming from the free throw, from what Barcello added for the +8 from Burgos (77-85). Fortunately, Tizona showed pride in the final minute, defending at a high level to not allow San Sebastian baskets, and the score was only altered by Thiam from the free throw. Their points certified Tizona’s 77-87 victory.

The MVP of the Ureta Tizona Burgos Group was Gerard Jofresa, with 20 points, 1 rebound, 2 steals and 1 foul received for a PIR of 20. For Guuk Gipuzkoa Basket, the highest rated was Alex Barcello, with a PIR of 25 (22 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 fouls received).
