UPNA Student Wins Gold at Spanish University Judo Championship

Asier Murillo Martínez de Lizarrondo, a student of the Master’s degree in Primary Education at the Public University of Navarra (UPNA), has won the gold medal in the -60 kilo category at the Spanish University Judo Championship, held on the 10th. and May 11 in Jaca (Huesca), organized by the University of Zaragoza. In addition, two other students from the academic institution, Ainara Garnica Velaz (degree in Master of Early Childhood Education) and Alain Landa Cebrián (degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering), achieved fifth position.

Specifically, Ainara Garnica, who competed in the -52 kg category, and Alain Landa, in the -90 kg category, competed in the bronze medal match, although they each suffered defeats.

The rest of the UPNA team, trained by Juan Azpiroz Zilveti, has been made up of two other judokas: Sergio Palacios Calzado (degree in Engineering in Industrial Technologies), who placed ninth in -66 kg, after passing two rounds, losing in the quarterfinals in the end, win the first match of the repechage and lose the second; and Aitor Melero Abad (Master of Primary Education degree), who won his first fight in the -81 kg category, fell in the second to finally be defeated in the first of the repechage.
