Guanajuato, Gto.- With a view to their participation in the next National Universiade, the delegation of 64 athletes who will represent the University of Guanajuato (UG) was flagged, which will participate in 14 disciplines.
The most important student sports event in Mexico, organized by the National Sports Council of AC Education (CONDDE), will take place from May 11 to 28, with the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes (UAA) as host institution of the 300 participating universities.
Thus, prior to their participation in this sports festival, the symbolic delivery of uniforms was carried out to the 64 UG athletes, who obtained their pass to the national phase in: Women’s and Men’s Chess, Men’s and Women’s Athletics, Men’s Badminton , Men’s E-Sports, Women’s Judo, Women’s and Men’s Karate, Men’s and Women’s Weightlifting, Women’s Wrestling, Women’s and Men’s Rugby, Men’s Taekwondo, Women’s Tennis, Men’s and Women’s Table Tennis, Men’s Archery, and Men’s Triathlon .
The ceremony was headed by the General Rector of the UG, Dr. Claudia Susana Gómez López, who presented the UG pennant to the students Fernanda Abigail Tovar, of the Karate Do discipline; Angela Edith Báez Canchola, from the Judo discipline and Gema Estefanía Morales Reyes from Rugby.
Representing the university athletes, Cruz Alberto Hernández Ramírez, who will compete in weightlifting, offered a message in which he referred to the meaning of participating in the Universiade.
The event recognized the discipline and dedication of the university athletes, as well as the support and accompaniment of their coaches, and the support of the university authorities, through the Student Development Directorate.
It was up to coach José Luis Castrejón, of the weightlifting discipline, to speak on behalf of his teammates, and thank them for the effort and teamwork that in this edition made it possible for 64 UG athletes to participate in the national phase of the Universiade.
Also present at the flag ceremony were the Director of Student Development, Lic. Gilberto Barrientos García; the Coordinator of Physical Culture and Sports, Prof. Miguel Ángel Contreras Barajas; as well as students who represent the University of Guanajuato in different sports disciplines.
