European Cup winners Niners Chemnitz have lost their footing in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). A week after their triumph in the FIBA Europe Cup, the third-place team lost against Rasta Vechta at home 83:91 (45:55), and on Friday Chemnitz had already lost out to the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg. Vechta around top scorer Tommy Kuhse (21 points) played with concentration and earned the win. Wes Iwundu hit the decisive three-pointer for the guests 26 seconds before the end.
Bayern Munich won on Labor Day at champions ratiopharm Ulm 81:74 (37:36), the cup winners took their 25th win in their 30th game of the season and consolidated their lead in the table. Bayern’s best thrower was Carsen Edwards (17), world champion Andreas Obst sank the 500th three-pointer of his BBL career. Second is Alba Berlin (24:6), which had already beaten MLP Academics Heidelberg (96:89) on Tuesday. The BG Göttingen gave the EWE Baskets Oldenburg a setback in the race with 87:83 (38:42) and a playoff place.
