UGB Judo Team Shines at Saint-Louis International Tournament: Bringing Home Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals

The UGB judo team once again distinguished itself at the Saint-Louis international judo tournament which was held from May 18 to 19, 2024 on the tatami of the Didier Marie gymnasium complex. UGB won 7 medals, including 01 gold, 02 silver and 04 bronze.

As such, Mariétou DIENG from the 2 STAPS license (Sciences and Techniques of Physical and Sports Activities) won the gold medal in the 48 kg category. Aïssatou COLY (-48kg), and Khady Ja SANE (-78 kg), each won a silver medal. As for Iréne BASSENE (-70 kg), Marie DIOUF (- 57kg), Cheikh FAYE (- 81kg) and Selé NGOM (- 60kg) each obtained a bronze medal. With these performances, UGB is ranked third in the individual category and fourth in the team category.

The 24th edition of the international judo tournament in the city of Saint-Louis brought together 126 participants from 6 countries in the sub-region.

The fighters presented their medals this Tuesday, May 21, 2024 to the director of the UFR SEFS. Professor Assane DIAKHATE congratulated and encouraged the team and the fighters. He also expressed the ambition of the UFR SEFS of the UGB to give Senegal Olympic medals after that of El Hadj Amadou DIABA, silver medalist in the 400 m hurdles, during the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. He also informed of the reception of a Guinean Bissau swimmer who must prepare in the High Performance Center and the expertise of the UFR SEFS in view of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

These performances demonstrate the skills of these athletes and the quality of the training provided and the supervision at the UFR SEFS of Gaston Berger University of Saint Louis.
