UAT Athletes Shine with Six Medals at National Universiade 2024

With the conquest of gold and bronze in Fencing, plus the gold that José Alfredo Quintá López obtained in Judo, the athletic delegation of the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas accumulates six medals in the 2024 National Universiade, which is held in Aguascalientes.

Quintá López, a student at the Tampico Faculty of Engineering, rose to the top of the podium as undefeated, winning six fights in the 66 kilogram body weight category, at the Tatami of the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, South Campus.

The national team also accounted for representatives of the University of Guadalajara in the final and in the semifinal, having previously left their counterparts from the UV, UANL, CUT Guadalajara and UNAM on the road.

For his part, Brandon Alan Romo Beltrán won gold in the men’s Individual Saber category, beating the UANL fencer 15-4 in the final and had previously defeated the Anáhuac representative Mayab Yucatán in the Semifinal.

The native of Mexicali, Baja California, is studying Renewable Energy at the Reynosa Rodhe Multidisciplinary Academic Unit.

For her part, the student of the Multidisciplinary Academic Unit of Social Work and Sciences for Human Development, Alejandra Yamile Badillo Varela, won bronze in Fencing, also in the Individual Saber modality, but in the women’s branch.

Cecilia Martinez Aguilera is the sensei of Quinta Lopez, while the also international Ursula Gonzalez Garate is the coach of Romo and Badillo.

In this way, the UAT has six medals, two gold, two silver and two bronze, with eight days of competition remaining in the 26th edition of the country’s highest university sports event.

Taekwondo, Fencing and Judo are the disciplines that have provided the medals for the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas.
