Trajan Langdon Faces Tough Decisions as New President of the Pistons

The Pistons have bet on Trajan Langdon to become the new president of the franchise. After a catastrophic season (14 victories, 68 defeats), the new strong man of Detroit has files to manage and decisions to make. Particularly on the men already in place: Troy Weaver, the GM, and coach Monty Williams.

The former Pelicans GM might want to place his men in the main functions, except that the Pistons coach signed a six-year, $76 million contract last summer.

He therefore has five seasons left and above all around sixty million dollars to receive. Such a contract does not facilitate a possible dismissal since it will then be necessary to pay the rest of the contract in addition to the salary of the new coach.

More The Athletic specifies that the owner of the Pistons, Tom Gores, would be ready to pay these 60 million to Monty Williams if Trajan Langdon ever decides to change coaches. A decision which removes a thorn in the side of the new leader, who would therefore have a free hand to install a new coach on the bench, if he so wishes. As for Williams, this would be another nice check for him. Last season, he received $21 million in compensation after his dismissal from the Suns.
