Training in Nîmes: Ivorian Archery Team Prepares for 2024 Olympic Games

The Ivory Coast archery team is training in Nîmes for the 2024 Olympic Games. Meeting with Marcelle and Prisca, 66 days before the Games.

A big smile… Yet 66 days before the Olympic Games, nothing has yet been done for Marcelle and Prisca, two young Ivorian archers. For a week, they have been preparing for Paris 2024 in Nîmes.

There are the best here. Since we want to be the best, why not come and train here?

At 21 years old for Marcelle and 19 years old for Prisca, the two young women could soon discover the 2024 Olympic Games. But the level of their country in archery does not allow them to be directly selected. They will have to win their qualification during a tournament in Türkiye in June.

For the tournament they have to do, you have to have a group in the red zone on the target. There, we are reviewing exercises, so the grouping of arrows is smaller but it will come“, explains Olivier Grillat, sports director of the Arc Club de Nîmes.

All week, Olivier Grillat has been giving his advice. The sports director of the arc club Nîmes is there to allow Ivorian athletes to make the most of their technique. While respecting their pace. Prisca and Marcelle train in the country in difficult conditions.

They manage to make 250 arrows, that’s almost a maximum per day. When I do an internship, I have to be careful not to exceed too much, I have to increase the dose but without exaggerating so that there is no injury and no problem.“, continues the coach.

The message seems to have gotten through.

When you start training again, you have to apply technique, it’s above all technique“, confirms Prisca Kossia, Ivorian archer. To allow girls to live their Olympic dream. “I missed Tokyo 2020, so I don’t want to miss Paris 2024. It’s really a big dream for me.” confirms Marcelle.

Prisca and Marcelle hope to spend the first week of the Olympics on the Esplanade des Invalides, venue of the Olympic tournament.
