John Schneider praised the Toronto Blue Jays’ offensive performance earlier this week, but the Toronto offense seems to have returned to its bad habits.
Jays batters were held to six hits and just one run in a 2-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, their second loss in 24 hours. After producing nine runs in three out of four games earlier this week, the Blue Jays were limited to three runs in two games Friday and Saturday.
A two-run homer from Kerry Carpenter in the first inning was enough for the Tigers to triumph in a second straight game against Toronto.
Carpenter also hit a two-run homer in Friday’s 6-2 win over the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays threatened in the third inning, but Justin Turner was struck out by Olson with the bases loaded, which ended the Toronto team’s hopes.
Davis Schneider gave the Blue Jays hope with a single-run double in the seventh inning, but Toronto was unable to add a single run afterward.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. put a ball to safety, while Bo Bichette was hitless in four at-bats.
José Berrios did not have a bad outing on the mound, where he worked for seven innings of work, before being replaced by Jordan Romano. Berrios allowed seven hits and two runs and suffered his fourth loss in nine decisions.
The victory went to starter Reese Olson in the Tigers camp, after the latter allowed only three hits and one run in six and a third innings.
The two teams will meet for the fourth and final game of the series late Sunday morning.
