Toronto Blue Jays offense falters in 5-0 loss to White Sox

Limited to just two hits in the game, the Toronto Blue Jays offense fell back to neutral in a 5-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday at the Rogers Centre.

Facing the worst team in major league baseball, Justin Turner and Ernie Clement were the only Jays hitters who hit to safety. The winners’ starter, Garrett Crochet, excelled for six innings, making four strikeouts. Three other pitchers frustrated the Jays’ offense.

This setback reflects the Jays’ season, since several key players are experiencing difficulties. This is the case of Georges Springer who has maintained a batting average of .194 until now this season, although he has hit .265 since his debut in the big leagues. Shortstop Bo Bichette’s issues are similar. For example, his power average is .611, the worst of his career.

Nicky Lopez was responsible for the first point of the clash in the second set. Corey Julks and Danny Mendick each drove in two runs later in the game, in the fifth and eighth innings respectively.

Jays starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi struck out six batters and allowed five hits, including three walks, in six innings.

The loss halted the Jays’ two-game winning streak, who beat the White Sox 9-3 on Monday. They will be able to take their revenge on Wednesday during the last part of the series between the two clubs. Toronto is in last place in the American League East with a 21-26 record. It’s still better than Chicago, which has only 15 wins this season.

-Elsewhere in the majors, the Minnesota Twins enjoyed an easy 10-0 victory at the expense of the Washington Nationals. Quebecer Edouard Julien made one appearance at bat and was struck out.
