Tommy Haas Believes Alexander Zverev Can Still Win a Grand Slam

Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev is still missing a Grand Slam triumph – but former professional Tommy Haas believes in the Hamburg native’s title potential.

“I think that Alexander certainly still has what it takes to be a player who can win a Grand Slam,” Haas told “Sport1” before the French Open.

“Of course you have (Carlos, ed.) Alcaraz and (Jannik, ed.) Sinner, who you think: When the two of them play their best tennis, they are untouchable at the moment,” said Haas about the strong competition for Zverev, who is currently ranked fourth in the world rankings.

Haas, who ended his career in 2018, does not rule out a surprise winner at Roland Garros. “This year it could be a completely different one, although we are always talking about six, seven or eight players,” predicted the former world number two.

He does not want to write off the 22-time Grand Slam winner and clay court king Rafael Nadal, who has triumphed 14 times in Paris alone.

“Nadal will of course be celebrated and it will be nice to see him again in Paris. Even though he has played well in recent weeks, you can see that he is a step too slow and is struggling with his body,” said Haas, “but you can never completely forget Nadal, especially at the French Open.”
