Timpson Bears Celebrate State Championship Victory with Ring Ceremony

TIMPSON, Texas (KTRE) – Tuesday night in Timpson the state champion Bears football team received their rings after winning the 2A state title back in December. The community came out to honor and celebrate the team who was able to bring a state championship home for the first time in the schools history. Head coach Kerry Therwhanger had this reaction.

“Oh, it’s fantastic,” he said. “You know, I talked about it in the semifinal game and the state game: making memories. This is just another memory that these guys have to share with each other and with this community and, you know, to have that many people show up on a Tuesday night, just to see guys given a ring, speaks to the special group that we’ve gotten in the community and the support that we’ve had.”

Timpson quarterback Terry Bussey said, “It’s a dream, dream come true. You grow up as a little kid playing football wanting to get a state championship. That was really a dream come true.”

Terry, who is off to play at Texas A&M University this Fall, told us the footprint he hope he has left at Timpson, which happens to be the biggest goal he has achieved so far.

“Bringing the first state championship to a school, very memorable, very special. So being able to leave that when I leave, being able to do that, that was big for me,” he said.

And nice to see the Timpson Bears getting those championship rings after the immaculate season that they had. For East Texas Sports, I’m Mark Bownds. Make it a great night.
