The Tiger Cup is one of the largest tournament events in northern Germany. Around 750 participants from 100 clubs who traveled from all over Germany came to this judo event. This year the event was fully booked long before the originally scheduled registration deadline. Accordingly, the lists in the individual weight classes were well filled and the standard of the competitions was correspondingly high.
Thies Rehberg was the only fighter from VSV to start. Despite a good start and a confident lead in the first fight, a little carelessness was enough for the opponent to turn the fight around. After the inattention in round one, Thies showed full commitment in the consolation round and didn’t make any further mistakes that would have meant the tournament exit for him. The concentrated effort in the consolation round paid off and Thies fought his way to third place on the podium.
