According to the English newspaper “The Guardian”, Manchester United will part ways with coach Erik ten Hag. The cup final against Manchester City on Saturday (4 p.m.) will be the last game for the 54-year-old Dutchman. Man United did not want to comment when asked, and the coach’s departure has not yet been officially confirmed. Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel is being discussed as a candidate for his successor.

Ten Hag joined the Red Devils from Ajax in the summer of 2022 for a transfer fee of around €2 million and has since scored an average of 1.91 points in 113 games. During his tenure, Man United finished third and most recently eighth in the Premier League, missing out on participation in the European Cup via the league for the first time in ten years. A win in the FA Cup final would secure the Europa League for the coming season. Ten Hag won the English League Cup this season, but has been under pressure, especially since the entry of the new co-owners, including Sir Jim Ratcliffe of INEOS.

According to the report, Man United has identified Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino (unemployed), Kieran McKenna (Ipswich), Graham Potter (unemployed) and Thomas Frank (Brentford) as candidates for the successor. Recently there was talk that Tuchel was the favourite for the coaching position should ten Hag have to leave. Tuchel is leaving FC Bayern at the end of the season, although his contract runs until 2025. This was announced in February. Recently there had been talks about him staying, but an agreement could not be reached.
