The Success of Josip Stanisic’s Loan at Bayer Leverkusen and the Uncertain Return to FC Bayern

The loan from FC Bayern is a success story for Josip Stanisic and Bayer Leverkusen. Now everything points to the Croatian returning to Munich. However, one scenario could still prevent this.

It is still astonishing to this day that FC Bayern loaned home-grown Stanisic to Bayer Leverkusen for a year last transfer summer. With all the problems in the right-back position over the course of the season, the record champions could have made good use of the 24-year-old. Stanisic needed some time to arrive in Leverkusen, the season was already underway at that time. Since the second half of the season at the latest, however, he has established himself as a solid force, plays regularly and has also scored four competitive goals, including the opening goal in the 3-0 win against Bayern in the second half of the season.

Will Stanisic stay in Leverkusen?

When the loan deal ends, Stanisic will return to FC Bayern. A report from Sky that he would prefer to stay at Bayer Leverkusen is not true, according to kicker information. The professional has never commented on this, nor is there a purchase option for Leverkusen. And, so far, there has been no official attempt by the new German champions to finally sign him from FC Bayern.

Tuchel planned without the Croatian

Stanisic’s departure from FC Bayern last August had only one reason: coach Thomas Tuchel had no plans for him. Therefore, there is a scenario in which Stanisic could seek a final farewell from Munich: firstly, if Tuchel remains Bayern coach and secondly, if he has not changed his opinion about Stanisic. But would the record champions then sell him to their rivals? And at what price?

With Stanisic’s return, Munich currently has an oversupply of right-backs – four with him, Noussair Mazraoui, Sasha Boey and Joshua Kimmich, should he stay and be planned there. However, there are managers in the club who have recognized that Stanisic identifies with FCB, while for Mazraoui, for example, service for his home country of Morocco was often important (his right), but he was not there for weeks or months afterwards was available. Boey, signed for 30 million euros in the winter, is permanently injured, and doubts about whether he is in the right class are justified.

Before returning to Säbener Straße, Stanisic has two finals with Leverkusen and the European Championship with Croatia. Here too, thanks to his performance at Bayer, he has gained a better standing and can hope for a regular place.
