The ruins of the hotel are almost still smoking. A few days ago, a Russian missile hit the building and seven bodies were pulled out of the rubble. When you cross Chernigiv, 150 km north of kyiv, war is on every street corner. Here the library is in rubble, there the FC Desna Tchernigiv stadium is completely destroyed, where Mykhailo Mudryk, the new star of Ukrainian football, had his best days before signing for Chelsea. The same goes for the Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities or the National Biathlon Center… Elizabeth Shevchenko shows us the damaged places of her hometown without letting her emotions show. For many people in Chernigiv, this is the only way to keep moving forward. Every day, she goes to her judo club before returning to the university where she studies to become a physical education teacher. Elizabeth Shevchenko is the great hope of Ukrainian judo. A gifted one. Every year, she is outclassed in her category and nevertheless wins the National Championship. At the age of 16, in 2021, she became Ukrainian U19 champion.
