The Huesca coach explains why the VAR annulled the penalty against Oviedo: “I don’t understand the rule, but that’s how it is”

The match between Huesca and Oviedo, 0-2, was not without controversy. On this occasion, the referee awarded a penalty for a handball by Oier Luengo when the result was 0-1 for a handball. However, the VAR called the referee in front of the screen to review his decision. After consulting the monitor, the referee corrected and overturned the penalty.

The play was protested by the Huesca fans. At the end of the clash, the local coach, Antonio Hidalgo, made reference to the action, explaining the reason why it was not a penalty. «The first thing is to thank the referee for being able to talk to him. He tells us that if he comes from your head and hits your hand it is not a penalty. And I don’t understand that rule. And on top of that he takes away the corner we had. But that’s how it is and it’s a complicated situation,” he explained to the media.

Regarding the development of the match, Hidalgo stated that “we are in a difficult moment, with bad feelings, and this has been seen especially in the second half. In the first I think we were better than them in many phases of the match, we took a lot of corners, and that shows that we had control of the situation, but we didn’t finish almost anything we tried. And the Huesca coach added: «When you receive a goal now it is a very heavy weight from which it is very difficult to get up. Furthermore, there is a clear penalty that they do not give you and you try to keep rowing.
