The promising tennis sisters Fruhvirts can put an end to a lackluster season at the prestigious “thousands” in Rome. On Tuesday, both of them went from the qualification to the main competition, while both were able to outplay the players ranked higher in the rankings. The older Linda even got into the qualifying fights as a substitute.

Nineteen-year-old Linda Fruhvirtová, currently the 150th player in the world ranking, took advantage of her chance in the Italian capital and will play the main competition of the local clay event of the WTA 1000 series.

In the final of the two-round qualification, which she only reached thanks to the withdrawal of the Frenchwoman Alizé Cornetová, the Czech tennis player beat the favored Swiss Viktoria Golubicová, who is ranked 74th in the ranking, 6:1, 7:6.

Fruhvirtová clearly dominated the first set, but lost 1:3 in the second. She was able to turn it around to 5:4, but twice she failed to end the match on her own serve. But she managed the decisive tie-break with a ratio of 7:4.

The struggling older sister won two matches in a row for the first time in the current season.

A few hours later, her younger sister, Brenda, who is two years younger, also imitated her.

The 102nd tennis player in the world swept 6:0, 6:2 Wimbledon 2022 quarterfinalist Jule Niemeier from Germany in the first round, and in the final she dealt with the eighth-ranked player, French Océane Dodin, in sets 6:4, 6:3.

In the first set, she was losing 3:4 with the loss of a break, but then she dominated after a great turnaround. She turned the second set in the same way and will now wait together with her sister to see which opponent she will get in the first round.
