French Open: “Poor sausages”: Mother of Grand Slam winner dishes out media

Dominic Thiem will end his career in the fall. In the last few days, the Austrian was in action in the qualifying at Roland Garros and failed there on Wednesday against the Finn Otto Virtanen. The organizers had previously decided not to give the two-time French Open finalist (2018, 2019) a wildcard.
In Paris, some journalists from his home country wanted to ask the 2020 US Open winner a few questions. But manager and brother Moritz Thiem declined the interview request. The reason: the reporting was too critical.
Mother Thiem distributes
The criticism of the 30-year-old’s lack of success and the management’s questionable positioning in public left its mark on Thiem’s environment. Mother Karin Thiem was also provoked by it.
At home in Austria she watched her son’s three-set win against Franco Agamenone. 10,000 fans celebrated Thiem at Court Suzanne Lenglen, the second largest tennis court in Paris. Karin Thiem wrote on Instagram about a photo that shows Dominic being celebrated by the fans after the victory: “To all the smart Austrians, journalists, cabaret owners and other poor sausages and hot dogs!”
“Enjoy one last year”
Thiem answered questions from other journalists and the organizer of the French Open. And then he also talked about his resignation. The decision came about after he realized “that I could no longer reach my old level.”
Then he said to himself: “I’m going to enjoy one last year and then close the chapter as a professional tennis player. It’s not the end of life and I hope that something new and exciting will come my way.”
Thiem spoke highly of the French Open. «When I was at my peak, I didn’t realize how well I was actually playing, especially in this tournament. The French Open gave me a lot of great memories from the junior competition onwards.”
