The French fight hard in the first round of the PGA Championship

The morning started badly for the French in this 106th USPGA. Starting with Kurt Kitayama and Peter Malnati, Victor Perez quickly found himself caught in the throat with a bogey at the start of his day. Struggling on his shots (only 7 fairways out of 14), the three-time winner on the DP World Tour struggled throughout his game. Not the slightest birdie on his card but a double and six bogeys. With a score of 79 (+8), Perez is in 151st place and sees the cut slip away.

Pavon: “finding pleasure again”

This afternoon, Matthieu Pavon was on track alongside YE Yang, winner of the 2009 PGA Championship and JT Poston. After a +7 first leg, the winner of the Farmers recovered well on the return leg with 3 birdies and a bogey. Tired by the sequence of his last weeks, the Frenchman is suffering the blow.

“I just didn’t play well today and that’s consistent with last week. There’s a bit of everything, I’ve played a lot of tournaments so far and the season is very condensed. The courses are becoming more and more demanding. All of this requires even more concentration and makes it even more tiring. I’ll have to recharge the batteries quickly. I still made quality shots which wasn’t really the case on my way out. I felt good sensations on these few shots and I will try to find them again tomorrow. I’m going to come back to try to beat the course and have fun. It’s been 15 days since I took any, so I’ll have to rediscover this notion. »

Matthieu Pavon is 143rd at the dawn of the second round.
