The French Departmental Team Cup: A Key Event for Young Judokas in Lot-et-Garon

The French Departmental Team Cup is a highlight for the Departmental Judo Committee. Next weekend in Ceyrat (Puy-de-Dôme), the young Lot-et-Garon judokas will have a lot to do.

Jean-Luc Roubiol, judo teacher in Casteljaloux and head of the sports commission of the Departmental Committee – juniors and cadets, explains the stakes of this competition: “With Jérôme Ricaud, my alter ego, we have, for months, observed our young judokas during departmental, zone or regional competitions, in order to select the best competitors based on physical and technical criteria, but also behavior and motivation.” Jérémy Louws, federal technical advisor for the 47, insists: “The Coupe de France is an extremely tough competition because we may have to quickly meet departments which have a much higher number of licensees than ours.”

Take out the chickens at least

The two teams, women’s and men’s, will first compete in a group of three. The boys immediately go with the Meuse and the Côtes-d’Armor, the girls meeting the Val-d’Oise and the Cantal. Two teams are qualified for the rest of the competition by direct elimination. The teams compete in the different weight categories and in Katas. Our women’s team leaves with a small handicap since it was unable to select judokates in the categories – 63 kg, – 70 kg and over 70 kg (which could also be the case for one or other of their opponents). “The objective is to get out of the pools and complete at least one round,” confirms the president of the Departmental Committee, Thierry de Redon.
