The Festival of Social and Sport in Rieti: A Weekend of Unity, Empowerment, and Fun

It is said that the first time is a coincidence, the second a coincidence, but the third is a certainty. And this has become the Festival of Social and Sport in Rieti. The certainty that we can talk about Sport and Social Affairs, that we can practice them at least for a day together with those who practice it throughout the year with a lot of commitment and sacrifice. Speaking with people, it was understood that during the two days we go through different moments: the adrenaline of the races and the live participation in the sporting event, the sharing of social issues of great importance, the knowledge of people’s lives fragile, who every time teach us how to be in the world, pushing us to the point of emotion.

In the setting of the main square, citizens were able to have fun at the same time, enjoying the historic center and joining the nightlife in the late hours. The music involved and unleashed all the participants of the stands, passers-by and organizers together, between good food and good drinks. The Event gave everyone a weekend of physical and mental relief, as well as full energy and new motivation to continue improving society and enjoying healthy sociality.

Every year a social theme of particular importance is explored in depth; this year the topic of violence against women was discussed. Furthermore, the inauguration of the Inclusive Park strongly desired by Atletica Sport Terapia and Annacarla Purificati took place on Sunday, next to the Perseo Shopping Centre, which was the “central theme” of the first edition of the Festival, giving this edition 2024 a more concrete and encouraging dimension on the future that our community can achieve.

Regarding this year’s theme on Gender Violence, with Toni Fusaro and Orietta Guidi of the Elisir di Idee Cultural Association, the theme was discussed in the presence of the Prefect Pinuccia Niglio, the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Sport Chiara Mestichelli, Don Roberto D ‘Ammando Director of the Sport, Leisure and Tourism and Pilgrimages Office of the Diocese of Rieti, and the Regional President of ASI Lazio Roberto Cipolletti. There was the participation of the Angelita Anti-Violence Center and the presentation of the book (:INFELICE:) by Orietta Guidi and Donatella Belli; to close the reflection, the music of the singer-songwriter Shard and the ballet of Roberta Muggia. An important moment was the awarding of the plaque to the Rieti champion Mattia Furlani, exponent of excellence in sport and example for young people, exponent of the very strong Andrea Milardi Student Athletics.

There was also a presentation of upcoming events in the area, including the Magliano Sabina Sports Festival (31 May – 2 June), ending in a festive atmosphere in the evening, with the Croma Latina concert and the show of ‘Orchestra Maurizio Serafini & Friends. Many Partner Associations were present with stands, including: Team Amore e Vita, Angelita, Tata Mary, Garuda Accademy, Associazione Giacche Verdi, Full Team, CSE Formazione, Tribe JuJitsu, X Gym, Vespa Club Rieti, Xtreme Gym, Planet, Adozioni del Cuore, Nuova Atletica Rieti, Cycling Reate, Paese dei Balocchi, Honoris Causa, Kodokan, EOS Ritmica Rieti, Shanti, Animus, Bioenergym di Roma, Studio Danza Movimento In, Tesori a Quattro Zampe, Dance Style, World MuayThai Federation, Mons Ferry , Magliano Sabina Sports Festival Association, GS Frasso, Area15, Poggio Mirteto Popular Gym and Rieti Proloco.

All together the Partners have given life to numerous activities: the now usual Turano Valley Cycling organized by Maurizio Bucci of the Amore & Vita Radiomondo Team, the Pedalata in Città, the “La Rieti Spring Run” walking race and the Walklab with Francesca; the overwhelming Zumbisti of Umberto and Pamela, dances of all types with artists from 9 to 90 years old; gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, and the innovative Bioenergym gymnastics; martial arts, Pilates and Yoga demonstrations; the Motorcycle rally and the Minimotos of the Full Team Group and the Vespa Club ginkana; the Baptism of the Saddle with the Pony of the Green Jackets; the lively shows of the Majorettes Cures, the Majorettes Fantasy of Contigliano and the Cheerleaders of Frosinone, with the presence of the National managers Marysol Cipriani and Patrizia Cavallone; the scenography on stilts by Bazì Project, coordinated by Simone Spaccini and the street artists Marzia Feraudo and Silvia Miluzzi on stilts; the CSE Flash Mob Training by Christian Manzi and Tata Mary on first aid for adults and children; space for children’s entertainment, with an inflatable area and Tata Mary’s activities dedicated to games and art; Fabio Pandolfi with Taiji Quan, Natural Tradition massage therapy, fighting demonstrations with medieval weapons, and stands dedicated to craftsmanship and Street Food.

This year, real competitions were included for the first time, with the participation of hundreds of athletes: JUDO. On Saturday, under a radiant sun shining over the city, a day dedicated to Judo took place. Around 100 athletes, from 6 clubs, gave life to a vibrant competition. The Pomezia Judo Club, Kodokan Judo, Kgym, Bushido Judo and Bellator Academy brought their talents to the tatami, on whose shoulders numerous medals shone, the result of battles and unreserved commitment. The day was a tribute to the passion, commitment and determination of those who practice this noble sport, leaving a beautiful memory in the history of Judo and in the hearts of all those who took part.

MUAY THAI. In the ring positioned in front of the former historic Bar “Gengarelli”, on Saturday for the first time Muay Thai, the Art of Eight Weapons, arrives in Rieti in collaboration with WMF ITALIA, an International Association based in Bangkok which also organizes meetings international, with President Simone Rinaldi, who immediately set about refereeing 20 matches, including the Main Event between Gabriel Olariu and Alberto Antenucci. The large audience supported the fighters with enthusiasm, responding positively to the presentation of the sport. All this made Maestro Fernando Francorsi, organizer of the matches and teacher of the Xtreme Gym, proud of having managed to bring this ancient discipline to Rieti. 5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL On Sunday the children of the Valle del Peschiera ASD, Nuova Rieti Calcio and the Greccio Football School participated in a tournament in the center of the square.

DANCE. From Sunday morning, over 200 dancers met at Dance Comunity Day, a dance stage with the Choreographer Maurizio Serafini with the opening of the Majorettes di Configni group. 5 schools were awarded for Social DANCE: Buleria Dance by Silvy Fabrizzi from Frosinone, New Dance by Paola Moretti Terni, Arcobaleno Dance by Fiorella Corinti from Civita Castellana, Isa Dance by Isabella Seminerio from Arezzo, Maurizio Serafini Social Dance by Maurizio Serafini in Sabina. For couple dances, a spectacular performance by the schools of Masters Gaia Scasciafratte and Cristian Menichetti from Rieti, with the participation of Adelmo Sonaglia from Terni.
